What Happens After I Apply?

So, you've applied for a course at East Durham College and you're wondering what happens next. Well, let's get into it, shall we?

Application

After You've Applied

  • You will receive an email confirming our Student Services team have received your online application and then another email once they have check and loaded your application into our system
  • If you have applied for a full time course our Student Services team will then be in touch inviting you to come along to one of our Come to College informal interview evenings. You will receive a letter and a text reminder. You'll get the opportunity to chat to the actual course lecturer, so you can find out all you need to know about the course. Don't worry, that's not as scary as it sounds - we just need you to attend so we can make sure that the course you're applied for is the right fit for you and your career aspirations.
  • Our Come to College open evenings happen throughout the year, just check out the Events Section for when the next one is on at the Peterlee or Houghall campus.
  • If you have applied for a short, part time course our Student Services team will get in touch about how you can enrol and start your course.

After Your Interview

  • If you're successful at your interview, we'll send you a letter confirming it.
  • Successful applicants usually have conditions to get into college on the course level you have discussed; for example, you might need five GCSEs at a certain grade.
  • Don't worry if you don't get your target grades though - most of the time, we'll simply adjust you to a different level of the course you're interested in instead!
  • Once you've received your letter from us confirming your place, you can accept it by contacting student services. Full instructions will be on the letter you receive.

Sit Tight

  • After you've accepted your place at EDC, it can be a bit of a wait!
  • The next step is enrolment, but that doesn't happen until over the summer.
  • It's important to note that attending the interview is NOT enough to sign up for a course; you need to come in and actually enrol on the course during our summer enrolment sessions.
  • Don't worry about us forgetting about you! Look out for little things arriving in the post from us, including an invite to enrolment.

Almost Time

  • Please don't forget to let us know if you change your address, email or phone number - we need to keep in touch with you!
  • If you change your mind about the course you've chosen, don't worry! Contact us and we can change it for you.

Enrolment

  • We'll write to you over the summer to advise on your enrolment date and time.
  • There'll be a few forms to fill in too.
  • Complete the forms and pop them in the freepost envelope provided, so we have them before you start in September.
